Historic family portrait at Palazzo Bacile in Spongano, Puglia, featuring the baron with his son, capturing a timeless moment of aristocratic heritage

Our History

For nearly five centuries, Palazzo Bacile has been the heart of the Bacile di Castiglione family, its walls quietly witnessing the passing of generations. Originally a medieval castle, it was gradually transformed into a lived-in place of warmth, blending traces of its fortified past with the rhythm of daily life.

By the 17th century, the antique baroque structures had become part of the palazzo’s architecture, marking its shift from stronghold noble home. Until 1999, it was the cherished home of Baron Fabio Bacile di Castiglione, son of Giovanni and descendant of Filippo, whose family tree once blossomed with fourteen children.

Today, his six children return to Spongano each summer, keeping traditions alive with lightness and affection. And now, one of his great-grandchildren lives at the palazzo year-round, bringing it back to life—a place full of laughter, beautiful joys, in which the pleasures of life are still noticed and fully enjoyed.
